                                             Event Planning

It takes a lot of work and patience to be an event planner but it is all worth it. The skills and the knowledge that I currently have that match up with a career in Event Planning is…
3 important things
1. Administration and Management: It’s important in Event Planning that you are knowledgeable of the business and how to administrate to others. I think that I am capable of managing well with different people and their ideas. In event planning and management you are creating a team to work well with together and to succeed a common goal. There needs to be a plan that is set and strategically planned. Event planners don’t just boss others around but lead. It’s important that I also communicate well with my clients to know what they want and need, as well as with my team. I am always willing to take that role in a being leader not just a boss.

2. Customer and Personal Service:  Now besides being a great leader to my team and for my clients. I need to provide an outstanding customer service or profile. I mean think about it? There are a lot of event planners out there why should they pick me to help them create a special event. This is why having a great customer service and creating a personal relationship is important. The reason is because this will help build trust with my clients and will eventually have them come back. I have worked in customer service for 10 years since I was 16yrs-old. So I understand the importance of meeting and providing a great quality of service to others.

3.  Speaking: Being able to be honest and speak clear to both clients and employees will create a positive work environment. One of the biggest benefits to effective communication is productiveness.  If employees understand what is expected of them they will perform better and have a better attitude at work. When an event planner can effectively communicate their expectations and goals with his or her employees is more likely to have employees that want to come to work and produce quality work on time. Plus speaking clear and giving directions can save you lots of stress and problems in the long run. I believe that when I am working with a team I able to be open and make each member feel that what they have to say matters. I'm also able to be clear in what I'm asking from them.

Now not everyone is perfect and has all the skills they need for their selected career. As an adult we will struggle or lack in some areas that we need to work on but that’s okay! Like in every job you have your strengths and your weakness….
3 skills or knowledge's that I currently don’t have that is required in Event Planning is….
1. Active Listening:  Active listening is a skill that if I want to be a successful event planner I have to practice and have. Active listening is giving your full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times. Now I know this is easier said than done but it’s an important skill to have. I think that instead of telling the client what my ideas are I should ask what they want. At the end of the day it’s the customer you want to satisfy and make sure there happy with the results.
2. Time Management: Time is Money!!!It’s important as an event planner that you manage your time wisely. Most of the time you are usually busy but it’s important that your busy being productive. I have the problem of working so hard on a particular task that I forget the time and don’t give myself enough time to get other things done. To help me improve this skill I need to create a schedule to help me manage my time wisely and not a to- do list.
3. Sales and Marketing: I have worked in sales and marketing when I was at OfficeMax and well it wasn’t my strongest point to sell. I never really like to sell products to customers that I thought they didn’t really need. I know that in Event Planning I need to promote not a product but myself and the work that I do. I need to market my services to people so they can see and know that I take pride in my work. I think what will help me to improve in this skill is to show the confidence and passion that I have in event planning. I do it because I love it not because it’s just a job!

There is a website called http://icould.com/  this website can help you during your career search. It is a UK-based website that features videos of people sharing their career stories. The stories cover people in all types of careers and at all phases of their working careers. One of the main purposes of iCould is to expose viewers to what different types of jobs really entail.  As a visitor to iCould you can search for stories by job type, life theme, or keyword tags. I like it because it is simple to use and you can hear from others how they think or feel about each occupation.
